Meet Sarah — Co-Founder
🧵 The Story Behind NEXFAB
"I spent 12-hour shifts caring for other people. The irony was, I couldn't care for my own legs."
Sarah Mitchell spent 14 years as a nurse at a Manchester hospital. On her feet from 7pm to 7am, six nights a week. Her legs would swell. Her ankles would double in size before the end of every shift. Her doctor had told her the same thing for years: "Sarah, you need to wear compression socks."
She had tried. Over and over again.
"Every pair I tried either stopped halfway up my calf, dug in so tight it left marks that lasted until the next morning, or rolled down within the first hour of my shift. I once threw a pair in the bin at 2am because my leg had gone numb."
The problem wasn't compression. It was the fact that Sarah — like millions of women — has wider calves than what the industry considers "standard." And nobody seemed to care.
The Moment Everything Changed
In 2022, after a particularly brutal shift, Sarah came home, sat on the edge of her bed, and looked at her legs. Swollen. Marked. Aching.
"I sat there thinking — I know exactly what my legs need medically. I just can't find a sock that actually delivers it. That felt wrong. That felt like a problem worth fixing."
She reached out to Emma, a university friend specialising in technical textiles. Together, they spent 18 months testing fabrics, compression levels, and cuff designs. They recruited 40 women with wider calves for real-world trials — not in a lab, but in their everyday lives. On long shifts. On shopping days. On their feet from morning to night.
The brief was simple: the sock had to fit over wider calves on the first try, leave zero marks, stay up for 12 hours straight, and deliver real medical-grade compression.
After 23 prototypes, NEXFAB was born.
What NEXFAB Means
NEX — Next generation. The next generation of compression, built for the real bodies of real women.
FAB — Fabric. Because everything starts with a material that respects your shape.
"Every woman who puts on NEXFAB for the first time and says 'they actually fit' — that's why we built this. Not for the standard calf. For yours."
